
HARTFORD, Conn.--May 20,
2004--Fuscient, a leader in innovative Internet technology and marketing solutions,
celebrates the world's first successful private space launch.
On May
17th, at 11:12 AM PT, from Black Rock Desert, Nevada, the Civilian Space
eXploration Team (CSXT) launched the world's
first amateur rocket into space.
Fuscient was the first and a lead sponsor of this historic endeavor.
The rocket
traveled over 4,000 MPH on its journey into space. The rocket attained an altitude of 72 miles
-- 10 miles above the internationally recognized 62-mile / 100km definition of
space.
The
combined nosecone, avionics, and payload section was recovered approximately 25
miles downrange after its successful reentry through the atmosphere.
After the
launch, a teary-eyed Ky Michaelson, founder of CSXT, said, "If it wasn't for these guys
[Fuscient], we wouldn't be here today."
Wayne
Vaughan, President of Fuscient, was on hand to participate in the launch. Vaughan
said, "Fuscient is incredibly proud to be part of this historic event. It took a couple years, but we finally got a rocket into space! I'd like to thank the other members of CSXT and the other companies that participated in making this launch possible."
The launch was approved and monitored on-site by the Federal
Aviation Administration.
